The Open Waterbike components

This is not just a collection of waterbike components.

It is a selection based on two principles:

  • all these are modular components suitable for the Open Waterbike; some of them are already available and conforming to the OW interfaces. Others (especially the outstanding novelties) are suitable for modularization within the project.
  • all these have been built and tested. Some are available form Open Waterbike member firms; some are outstanding componenst developed outside our community. The knowledge necessary for their development has been offered to us or is public demain. Community members are encouraged to use it acknowledging the paternity of the invention.

The Open Waterbike is a modular artifact.

That means that it is composed by several components (modules).

Here is an example of a typical catamaran waterbike architecture showing its  components:

Each module conforms to a set of specifications in order to ensure that the whole watercraft works properly even if composed by modules built by different manufacturers or even by users. The set of specification is sometimes called an interface. The Open Waterbike interfaces are discussed in the 'architecture' section.

Moreover, clever and innovative manufacturers could design and build better components, improving the performance of the boat or reducing its cost. This could lead to collective innovation.

We propose in this section of our website a selection of solutions for each of the relavant modules (components), including the technical documentation available so intersted members can develop their own.

The components shown are at different stages of development; some of them are actually available from Open Waterbike manufacturers while others are proposals to be developed by the community.
